2023 Update
Hello to our Friends and Family! We love connecting with everyone this time of year and getting updates from others so in true 2023 fashion this year we are using technology and QR codes to send our update!
2023 has been a year of change of direction for our family and it looks like things will just continue to do this as we have some big things on the horizon like a high school senior graduation!
Our biggest change in direction began last year when Dustin helped my parents purchase their 3rd hardware store in Van Alstyne about 20 minutes from us. As a family we enjoyed helping out and getting involved then my parents decided they wanted us to come into the hardware business with them as they move more towards retirement activities. So now Dustin is the operations manager for all 3 of the stores which are 450 miles apart (Kermit – Abilene – Van Alstyne) and we have all enjoyed this new direction. In Van Alstyne, Madison works after school during the week and Taylor works some as well as operates her own vending machine at the store. I have also enjoyed tagging along with Dustin and dad to hardware markets from New Orleans, Orlando and San Antonio this year.
I always say Dustin and I can do anything together, but we can’t do it all! Since I could not operate and manage a real estate office on my own while still selling real estate (my favorite) and Dustin is fully in the family hardware business we chose to close our RE/MAX office in Celina and move towards this new direction. I am still selling real estate full time as my own independent broker, Marr Team Realty Associates. Real estate is how I spend most of time and just help doing some paperwork with the hardware company when needed. As you know the real estate market has been crazy the past several years in this area, but it’s what I enjoy especially with the great clients I have built over the past 15 years and the friends and family they refer. I also still have my assistant, Michelle, of 12 years so she helps my business to continue to run smoothly too as well as helping in the hardware realm sometimes too.
Madison turns 18 in January and is a high school senior! The year is moving so fast already and I know the last semester really will fly. She applied and was accepted at 3 colleges, but has decided she wants to follow in my footsteps at Abilene Christian University (Go Wildcats!) So we are looking forward to spending more time in the Abilene area especially with grandparents and Bible Hardware there too! She will be pursuing Occupational Therapy career path with possible ASL connections. She stays busy with her dual credit college courses, work and friends.
Taylor is 13 and in 8th grade. She stays busy with school including theatre, cross country and soccer plus her club soccer team, Texas Spurs. She typically plays a wing on the field and loves her team and coach, who is a retired former D1 college soccer coach. They played in 2 leagues so we were on the soccer fields most Saturdays and Sundays in the fall. She attended several church camp and SMU soccer camp this year.
Taylor definitely keeps the mom taxi busy with her activities and social calendar. She’s also our animal lover that’s allergic to most animals except rabbits so she spends time with her pet rabbit, Finnley.
The photos on our card are from our very relaxing Thanksgiving cruise we took and enjoyed stops in Roatan, Costa Maya and Cozumel. We did a couple beach excursions and ziplined in Roatan across 12 platforms in the jungle.
We are looking forward to a great 2024 and pray the same for you too!
